Drive Belt: Service and Repair
Drive Belt ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Install a 3/8 inch breaker bar into the tensioner opening and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise.
Single Generator (Federal Emissions):
2. Remove the drive belt (1) from the drive pulleys, if equipped with a single generator (Federal emissions).
Single Generator And Vacuum Pump (Cal Emissions):
3. Remove the drive belt (1) from the drive pulleys, if equipped with a single generator and vacuum pump (California emissions).
Dual Generators (Federal Emissions):
4. Remove the drive belt (1) from the drive pulleys, if equipped with dual generators (Federal emissions).
Dual Generators And Vacuum Pump (Cal Emissions):
5. Remove the drive belt (1) from the drive pulleys, if equipped with dual generators and vacuum pump (California emissions).
6. Slowly release the tension on the tensioner arm.
Inspection and Repair
1. Inspect the drive belt for excessive cracking or any visible damage to the drive belt.
2. Replace the drive belt if there is damage or excessive cracking.
Installation Procedure
Dual Generators And Vacuum Pump (Cal Emissions):
1. Install the drive belt (1) to the drive pulleys, if equipped with dual generators and vacuum pump (California emissions).
Dual Generators (Federal Emissions):
2. Install the drive belt (1) over all of the pulleys except the tensioner pulley, if equipped with a dual generators (Federal emissions).
Single Generator And Vacuum Pump (Cal Emissions):
3. Install the drive belt (1) to the drive pulleys, if equipped with a single generator and vacuum pump (California emissions).
Single Generator (Federal Emissions):
4. Install the drive belt (1) over all of the pulleys except the tensioner pulley, if equipped with a single generator (Federal emissions).
5. Install a 3/8 inch breaker bar into the tensioner opening and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise.
6. Route the drive belt over tension pulley.
7. Slowly release the tension on the tensioner arm.
8. Inspect for proper drive belt installation.
9. Avoid mis-positioning the drive belt by one or more grooves.
10. Confirm the proper drive belt size and the correct drive belt routing by observing the location of the pointer and index marks on the drive belt tensioner. With a new drive belt installed the pointer should align within the index marks on the drive belt tensioner.
11. With a used drive belt installed the pointer should not align past the index marks.
