Wipers/Washers - Wipers Always ON
Bulletin No.: 05-08-43-001Date: January 18, 2005
TECHNICAL
Subject:
Windshield Wipers Always On (Replace Wiper Motor and Harness Connector)
Models:
2003-2004 Chevrolet SSR
Condition
Some customers may comment that the windshield wipers stay on even when the wiper switch is off.
Cause
This condition may be due to water entering the wiper motor connector body through the weather pack seal, resulting in corrosion of the terminals within that connector.
Correction
Inspect the windshield wiper motor connector terminals for residue or corrosion. If the terminals show signs of corrosion, replace the wiper motor and connector using the procedure listed below. This new connector w/leads has a more robust seal to prevent water intrusion.
1. Remove the wiper motor.
2. Cut off the connector.
3. Install the new service connector pigtail using the Duraseal sealed splices and instructions provided with the pigtail.
Important:
Use the J 38125-8 Crimp Tool provided in the J 38125 Terminal Repair Kit when crimping any Duraseal splice along with the Ultra Torch and J 38125-5 or J 38125-5A when making this repair. Failure to do so could compromise the integrity of this repair.
4. Install the new wiper motor.
