Muffler Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the retaining nuts at the catalytic converter flange.





3. Remove the rear exhaust from the left adjustable hanger.





4. Remove right rear adjustable hanger nuts.
5. Remove the rear axle tie rod and axle brace from the rear axle.
6. Remove the bolt retaining the right rear brake hose to the frame.
7. Remove the bolt retaining the right rear park brake cable to the frame.
8. Remove the frame brace by the gas tank, Refer to Frame Brace Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
9. Remove the right rear stabilizer bar link.
10. Support the rear axle with a suitable jack
11. Remove the right rear lower shock bolt,
12. Lower the axle to gain clearance to remove the exhaust.
13. Remove the right rear spring.
14. Remove the rear exhaust system from the insulators.

Important: It will be necessary to rotate the rear exhaust system in order to remove the system.

15. With the help of an assistant, remove the rear exhaust system from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. With help of an assistant, install the rear exhaust system.
2. Install the rear exhaust system to the insulators.
3. Install the right rear spring.
4. Raise the rear axle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the right rear lower shock bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
6. Remove the jack supporting the rear axle.
7. Install the right rear stabilizer link.
8. Install the frame brace by the gas tank.
9. Install the bolt to retain the right rear park brake cable to frame.
^ Tighten the bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the bolt to retain the right rear brake hose to the frame.
^ Tighten the bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the rear axle tie rod and rear axle brace.
12. Install the rear exhaust to the left adjustable hanger.





13. Install the nuts to retain the right exhaust hanger.
^ Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





14. Install the nuts at the catalytic converter flange.
^ Tighten the nuts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
15. Adjust the exhaust as necessary.
16. Lower the vehicle.
