Transmission Replacement

- J42371 Clutch Line Removal Tool

Removal Procedure





1. Shift the transmission into 3rd or 4th mechanical gear position.
2. Remove the shift tower.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Drain the transmission fluid.
5. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe.
7. Remove the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut.
8. Remove the left side transmission to engine brace.





9. Remove the right side transmission to engine brace bolts.
10. Remove the right side transmission to engine brace.





11. Use the J 42371, push back on the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect in order to separate the hydraulic clutch line from the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.
12. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
13. Disconnect the back up lamp switch electrical connector.
14. Remove the wiring harness from the harness retainers.





15. Remove the clutch housing cover bolts.
16. Remove the clutch housing cover.
17. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
18. Remove the transmission support frame.





19. Remove the transmission to engine bolts.
20. Pull the transmission straight back on the clutch hub splines. Do not let the transmission hang from the clutch plate and the clutch cover.
21. Lower the transmission using the transmission jack.

Installation Procedure





1. Raise the transmission using the transmission jack.
2. Install the transmission to the engine.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the transmission to engine bolts.
^ Tighten the transmission to engine bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
4. Install transmission support frame.
5. Remove the transmission jack.





6. Install the clutch housing cover.
7. Install the clutch housing cover bolts.
^ Tighten the clutch housing cover bolts to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the wiring harness to the harness retainers.
9. Connect the back up lamp switch electrical connector.
10. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.





11. Install the clutch line to the concentric slave cylinder.





12. Install the right side transmission to engine brace
13. Install the right side transmission to engine brace bolts.
^ Tighten the right side transmission to engine brace bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





14. Install the left side transmission to engine brace
15. Install the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut.
^ Tighten the left side transmission to engine brace baits and nut to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the exhaust manifold pipe.
17. Install the rear propeller shaft.
18. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level.
19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Install the shift tower.
21. Bleed the clutch system.
