This bulletin is being issued to address concerns over outside rearview mirrors that may "click" during memory recall or that may "ratchet" or "click" when the mirror reaches the end of its travel.
The mirror assembly has a travel stop on the top outboard edge so that the lower inboard corners do not protrude. This prevents the possible breakage to the mirror assembly if it is folded.
The ratcheting that is heard is the drive mechanism, or motors, disengaging after full travel in order to prevent them from failure or burn out. This condition is normal and necessary to protect the mirror assembly from electrical failure and breakage.
Please inform customers that this feature was designed to ensure the proper operation of their mirrors. Additionally, advise your customers to center the mirror betore performing memory recall functions.
