Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure




1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle, if required. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair in General Information.
2. Clean the area around the fill plug.
3. If equipped with the Eaton Fuller(R) FS series transmission, remove the oil fill plug (1).




4. If equipped with the Eaton Fuller(R) RT series transmission, remove the oil fill plug (2).




5. If equipped with the Spicer(R) ES transmission, remove the oil fill plug.
6. Using your index finger, inspect the oil level.
Important: When adding oil, types and brands of oil should not be mixed because of possible incompatibility.


7. If the oil level is low, add fluid until correct.

* If equipped with the Eaton Fuller(R) transmission, use Eaton Roadranger(R) CD50 transmission fluid.
* If equipped with the Spicer(R) transmission, use Spicer(R) MIL-2104 D API-SF, or API-CD transmission fluid.




8. Ensure that the oil is level with the bottom of the fill plug opening.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

9. Install the oil fill plug.

If equipped with the Spicer(R) transmission tighten the oil fill plug to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).




10. If equipped with the Eaton Fuller(R) RT series transmission, install the oil fill plug (2).

Tighten the oil fill plug to 82 Nm (60 lb ft).




11. If equipped with the Eaton Fuller(R) FS series transmission, install the oil fill plug (1).

Tighten the oil fill plug to 82 Nm (60 lb ft)

12. Lower the vehicle, if required.
