Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair
CONDENSER REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the grille.
3. Remove the hood primary latch support.
4. Remove the auxiliary cooling fan, if equipped.
5. Remove the compressor hose assembly nut from the condenser.
6. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the condenser.
7. Remove the evaporator tube nut from the condenser.
8. Remove the evaporator tube from the condenser.
9. Cap or plug all the open connections.
10. Remove the bolts from the condenser brackets.
11. Remove the brackets.
12. Remove the upper insulators.
13. Remove the condenser from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the condenser to the vehicle.
2. Install the upper insulators.
3. Install the brackets.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the bolts to the condenser brackets.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in).
5. Install the evaporator tube to the condenser.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
6. Install the compressor hose assembly to the condenser.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
7. Install the auxiliary cooling fan, if equipped.
8. Install the hood primary latch support.
9. Install the grille.
10. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
11. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A.
