Recall - Emissions Label Relocation: Overview

Bulletin No.: 02050

Date: December, 2002

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM

SUBJECT:
02050 - EMISSION LABEL VISIBILITY

MODELS:
2002 GMC SIERRA AND CHEVROLET SILVERADO EQUIPPED
WITH CALIFORNIA EMISSION DURAMAX 6.6L ENGINE (RPO LB7 - VIN CODE 1)

THIS PROGRAM IS IN EFFECT UNTIL JUNE 30, 2003

CONDITION

General Motors has decided that certain 2002 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado model vehicles, equipped with California emission Duramax 6.6L (RPO LB7, VIN Code 1) engines, were built with the engine emission control label installed at a location that is visually obstructed by the EGR wiring harness. The current location of the label is on the driver side cylinder cover of the engine. The new location of a second label will be on the engine fan shroud.

CORRECTION

An identical vehicle emission control label needs to be installed on the engine fan shroud, as shown in the illustration.

Since a new label can be easily installed, and to reduce customer inconvenience, the label will be sent with installation instructions directly to customers of record. Customers may install the label on the engine fan shroud. However, if they desire, customers may bring the label to their dealer for installation at no charge until June 30, 2003.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 2002 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado model vehicles, equipped with California emission Duramax 6.6L (RPO LB7, VIN Code 1) engines and built within these VIN breakpoints shown.

IMPORTANT:
Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through GMVIS (GM Vehicle Inquiry System) prior to beginning program repairs. [Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.]

PARTS INFORMATION

A new engine emission control label will be mailed to owners of record and involved dealers (for dealer stock vehicles) on a no charge basis. If additional labels are required for these California emissions vehicles only, contact Dealer Support Materials by calling 1-888-549-6152. Be sure to request label part number 97334015 for Customer Satisfaction Program 02050. DO NOT ORDER THIS PART FROM GMSPO.

IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Place an Identification Label on each vehicle corrected in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Program Bulletin. Each label provides a space to include the program number and the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the program service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or a ballpoint pen.

Put the Identification Label on a clean and dry surface of the radiator core support in an area that will be visible to people servicing the vehicle.

When installing the Identification Label, be sure to pull the tab to allow adhesion of the clear protective covering. Additional Identification Labels for US dealers can be obtained from Dealer Support Materials by either ordering on the web from DWD Store, gm-dealerworld.com, or calling 1-866-700-0001 (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST). Request Item Number 5-1015 when ordering.

Additional Identification Labels for IPC dealers can be obtained from your Regional Marketing Office.

DEALER PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY

All unsold new vehicles in dealers' possession and subject to this program must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this program bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles.

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this program at no charge to customers, regard less of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, through June 30, 2003.

Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. This could be done by mailing to such customers, a copy of the customer letter shown in this bulletin. Program follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.

In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this program enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your dealership for service prior to July 1, 2003, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the program correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
