Oil Pan: Service and Repair

Oil Pan Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
2. Install the engine on a suitable engine stand.
3. Remove the oil pan bolts.





4. Remove the oil pan nuts.





5. Remove the oil pan. Use a narrow putty knife in order to separate the oil pan from the engine block.





6. Remove the oil pan rear oil seal.
7. Clean the sealing surfaces and the oil pan.

Installation Procedure





1. Apply a 5 mm (0.193 inch) diameter bead of GM P/N 12346286 or equivalent to the oil pan side sealing flanges.





2. Apply GM P/N 12346286 or equivalent to the oil pan surface that contacts the engine front cover.





3. Install a new oil pan rear seal. Apply a small amount of GM P/N 12346286 or equivalent to the oil pan rear seal ears.





4. Install the oil pan.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the oil pan nuts.
^ Tighten the oil pan nuts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





6. Install the oil pan bolts.
^ Tighten the oil pan bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
7. Remove the engine from the engine stand.
8. Install the engine into the vehicle.
