Engine Block Heater: Service and Repair

Coolant Heater Replacement (L 18)
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the cooling system.





2. Disconnect the engine block heater cord from the block heater.





3. Remove the engine block heater from the engine block.

Installation Procedure
1. Apply thread sealant GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent to the threads of the engine block heater.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the engine block heater to the engine block.
Tighten the engine block heater to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).





3. Connect the engine block heatercord to the block heater.
4. Fill the cooling system.
