Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Catalytic Converter Replacement (L 65)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe.





2. Remove and discard the U-bolt from the catalytic converter to muffler joint.
3. Remove the catalytic converter hanger from the insulator.
4. Remove the catalytic converter.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the catalytic converter.
2. Install the catalytic converter hanger to the insulator.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install a NEW U-bolt to the catalytic converter to muffler joint.
Tighten the U-bolt clamp to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the exhaust manifold pipe.
