Tie Rod Boot: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle, Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement-Outer.





3. Remove the boot clip (2).





4. Remove the boot band (2).
5. Remove the boot (1) from the inner tie rod.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the boot (1) to the groove in the steering gear (3). Secure the boot to the steering gear with the boot band (2)





2. Apply chassis grease, GM P/N 12377985, or equivalent, to the inner tie rod (1).
3. Ensure the boot is not twisted, dented, or improperly folded.
4. Secure the boot (3) to the inner tie rod with the boot clip (2).
5. Install the outer tie rod. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement-Outer.
6. Lower the vehicle.
