Transfer Case Fluid Replacement


Removal Procedure
1. Rase the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the fill plug.
3. Place a container under the drain plug in order to catch the oil.





4. Remove the drain plug. Allow the oil to drain.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Important:
^ Ensure the drain plug is made of aluminum. A steel drain plug will cause accelerated corrosion that will destroy the magnesium case.
^ Do not use an impact tool to install the drain plug.





1. Install the drain plug.

Tighten
Tighten the drain plug to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

2. Fill the transfer case with oil. Refer to Capacities-Approximate Fluid.
3. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the oil fill plug hole.

Important:
^ Ensure the fill plug is made of aluminum. A steel drain plug will cause accelerated corrosion that will destroy the magnesium case.
^ Do not use an impact tool to install the fill plug.

4. Install the fill plug.

Tighten
Tighten the fill plug to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

5. Lower the vehicle.
