Wheel Stud / Lug Nut: Service and Repair

^ J 6627-A Wheel Stud Remover

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands. Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Service Precautions.
2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Remove the caliper mounting bolts.

Notice: Support the caliper with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the brake line.





4. Remove the brake caliper and hang the caliper from the suspension.
5. Remove the rotor.

Important: Do not hammer on a wheel hub bolt.





6. Remove the wheel hub bolt using J 6627-A.


Installation Procedure





1. Install the wheel hub bolt to the hub and bearing assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install four washers and the nut to the wheel hub bolt.
^ Tighten the wheel hub bolt nut to 130 Nm (95 ft. lbs.), drawing in the wheel hub bolt.
3. Remove the nut and the washers.
4. Install the rotor.

Notice: Refer to Brake Hose Installation Notice in Service Precautions.





5. Install the caliper and the caliper mounting bolts.
^ Tighten the caliper mounting bolts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
7. Lower the vehicle.
