Power Steering Pump Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the fan clutch from the water pump. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Cooling System.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine.
3. Remove the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pulley Replacement
4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
5. Remove the steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage.
6. Place a drain pan below the pump.
7. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.





8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
10. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering pump.
11. Cap the power steering pump hoses.





12. Remove the filler neck tube mounting bolt.
13. Remove the filler neck tube.





14. Remove the power steering rear mounting bracket nut from the engine stud.
15. Remove the power steering lower mounting nut from the engine stud.





16. Remove the power steering pump front mounting bolts.
17. Remove the power steering pump.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the power steering pump.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the power steering pump front mounting bolts.
- Tighten the power steering pump front mounting bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the power steering pump rear mounting bracket nut to the engine stud.
4. Install the power steering pump lower mounting nut to the engine stud.
- Tighten the power steering pump rear mounting bracket nut and the power steering pump front mounting nut to 41 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the filler neck tube.
6. Install the filler neck tube mounting bolt.
- Tighten the filler neck tube mounting bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





7. Connect the power steering cooler hose to the power steering pump.





8. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
10. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.
11. Install the steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement in Steering Linkage.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Install the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pulley Replacement.
14. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine.
15. Install the fan clutch to the water pump. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Cooling System.
16. Fill the power steering system.
17. Bleed the system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System.
18. Inspect the hoses for clearance away from the frame and other components.
