Flywheel: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Disconnect both the battery negative cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Replacement.
2. Remove the transfer case from the vehicle (if equipped).
^ For vehicles equipped with the BW 4401 (two speed manual) transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the BW 4470 (Two Speed Manual) transfer cases, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NVG 241-NP2 (Two Speed Manual) transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NVG 243-NP1 (Two Speed Selectable) transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NVG 246-NP8 (Two Speed Automatic) transfer case. refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For the NVG 246-NP8 transfer case. refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
3. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
^ For vehicles equipped the 4L80-E automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NV 4500 manual transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement.
4. Remove the clutch assembly from the crankshaft if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement.
5. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
Installation Procedure
Important: Do not resurface the flywheel, replace the flywheel if damaged due to over heating or excessive wear.
1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the flywheel mounting bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the clutch assembly if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement.
4. Install the transmission in the vehicle.
^ For vehicles equipped with the 4L80-E automatic transmission, refer to refer to Transmission Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NV 4500 manual transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement.
5. Install the transfer case in the vehicle (if equipped).
^ For vehicles equipped with the BW 4401 (two speed manual) transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the BW 4470 (Two Speed Manual) transfer cases, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NVG 241 -NIP2 (Two Speed Manual) transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NVG 243-NP1 (Two Speed Selectable) transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.
^ For vehicles equipped with the NVG 246-NP8 (Two Speed Automatic) transfer case, refer to Transfer Case Replacement.

6. Connect both the battery negative cable to the batteries. Refer to Battery Replacement.
