Fuel Hose/Pipes Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to the Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
3. Clean all the fuel pipe connections and the surrounding areas before disconnecting the pipes in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
4. Disconnect the fuel feed and return pipes (1), (2) from the fuel rail.
5. Cap the fuel rail pipes.
6. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
7. Remove the fuel pipes from the bell housing stud clip (4).
8. Remove the fuel pipes from the transmission bracket clip.




9. Remove the fuel pipes from the transfer case bracket clip 4, wheel drive only.




10. Remove the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister from the vehicle.




11. Disconnect the chassis fuel feed and return pipes at the rear fuel feed and return pipes.
12. Cap the rear fuel pipes.




13. Note the position of the fuel pipes for aid in installation.
14. Remove the fuel pipes from the retaining clips (1).
15. Remove the fuel pipes

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT:
^ When replacing the fuel pipes, always replace them with original equipment or parts that meet the GM specifications for those parts. The replacement pipes must have the same type of fittings as the original pipes in order to ensure the integrity of the connection.
^ DO NOT use copper or aluminum tubing to replace steel tubing. Only tubing meeting the 124-M specification or its equivalent is capable of meeting all pressure, corrosion and vibration characteristics necessary to ensure the durability standard required.




1. Install the fuel pipes into the retaining clips (1).




2. Remove the caps from the rear fuel pipes.
3. Connect the chassis fuel feed and return pipes at the rear fuel feed and return pipes.




4. Install the EVAP canister.




5. Install the fuel pipes into the transfer case bracket clip, 4 wheel drive only.




6. Install the fuel pipes into the transmission bracket clip.
7. Install the fuel pipes into the bellhousing stud clip (4).
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Remove the caps from the fuel rail pipes.
10. Connect the fuel feed and return pipes (1), (2) to the fuel rail.
11. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
12. Connect the negative battery cable.
13. Inspect for leaks.
13.1. Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds.
13.2. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
13.3. Turn the ignition ON.
13.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
