Brake Caliper Replacement - Rear
Removal Procedure1. Remove 2/3 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
4. Using a C-clamp or the equivalent, compress the caliper piston until the caliper piston bottoms in the bore.
5. Disconnect the brake hose at the caliper by removing the inlet fitting bolt.
6. Remove the caliper guide pin bolts (15 series pickups).
7. Remove the caliper guide pin bolts (15/25 series utilities, 25 series pickups).
8. Remove the caliper.
9. Inspect the caliper assembly. Refer to Brake Caliper Inspection.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the caliper.
2. Perform the following procedure before installing the caliper guide pin bolts (15 Series pickups only).
2.1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
2.2. Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
2.3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 or Red LOCTITE(TM) #272 to the threads of the bolt.
3. Install, but do not tighten the caliper guide pin bolts (15 series pickups).
4. Install, but do not tighten the caliper guide pin bolts (15/25 series utilities, 25 series pickup).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts.
^ Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 42 N.m (31 lb ft) (15 series).
^ Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 108 N.m (80 lb ft) (25 series).
6. Connect the brake hose at the caliper by installing the inlet fitting bolt.
^ Tighten the inlet fitting bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
7. Bleed the brakes. Refer to Automated Bleed Procedure.
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
9. Remove the safety stands.
10. Lower the vehicle.
