Oil Pan: Service and Repair


Removal Procedure





1. The battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
2. Remove the oil level indicator and the tube (1) from the engine block. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement.
3. Raise the vehicle and support with safety stands. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Drain the crankcase. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
5. Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement.





6. Remove the flywheel inspection cover from the transmission.





7. Remove the oil pan bolts from the engine block.
8. Remove the oil pan and the gasket from the engine block.
9. Clean the gasket sealing surfaces on the engine block. Refer to Engine Block Clean and Inspect.


Installation Procedure





1. Apply the RTV sealer GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent to the front cover to block joint and to the crankshaft rear seal to block joint. Apply the sealant for about 25 mm (1 inch) in both directions from each of the four corners.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the oil pan bolts.
^ Tighten the oil pan bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the oil filter adapter to the engine block. Refer to Oil Enter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement.





4. Install the oil filter to the oil filter adapter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
5. Install the transmission oil cooler line retainer to the bracket.





6. Install the flywheel inspection shield from the transmission.
7. Install the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement.
8. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





9. Install the oil level indicator and the tube to the engine block. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement.
10. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
11. Refill the crankcase with the proper quantity and grade of engine oil. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations.
