Valve Cover: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement.
2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the clips, and move the harness aside.
3. Remove the air cleaner intake duct for access to the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
4. Remove the bolts and oil level indicator tube bracket. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement.
5. Remove the AIR check valve (crossover), if so equipped. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Check Valve/Pipe Replacement.





6. Remove the PCV tube.
7. Remove the following components for access to the left valve rocker arm cover:
7.1. The Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor, if equipped, and lay the A/C compressor aside. Refer to Compressor Replacement.
7.2. The EGR valve inlet pipe. Refer to EGR Pipe Replacement.
7.3. The PCV and the hose
7.4. The vacuum brake booster pipe, if equipped, and move it aside
7.5. Remove the valve rocker arm cover and the gasket.
7.6. Clean all traces of old gasket from the valve rocker arm cover and the cylinder head.


Installation Procedure


1. Install the valve rocker arm cover.





2. Install the components as follows for the left valve rocker arm cover:
2.1. The air conditioning compressor. Refer to Compressor Replacement.
2.2. The EGR valve pipe. Refer to EGR Pipe Replacement.
2.3. The PCV and the hose
2.4. The vacuum brake booster pipe
2.5. The AIR check valve (crossover) pipe, if equipped. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Check Valve/Pipe Replacement.





3. Install the components as follows for the right valve rocker arm cover:
- The air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement.
- The PCV tube.
- The oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement
4. Install the wiring harnesses to the valve rocker arm cover clips.
5. Install the spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement.
