Muffler Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the mounting straps from around the muffler.
2. Remove the nuts from the catalytic converter studs.
3. Remove the exhaust pipes from the exhaust manifolds.
4. Remove the muffler.
5. Inspect the components for the following conditions:
* Cracks
* Bends
* Stripped threads
* Corrosion damage
* Leaks
6. Repair or replace any damaged components as necessary.
Installation Procedure
Important: Use a new tail pipe (if equipped) whenever you replace a horizontal muffler.
1. Slide the clamp assemblies over the muffler ends.
2. Install the exhaust pipes to the exhaust manifolds.
3. Install the exhaust mounting straps around the muffler.
4. Install the nuts to the catalytic converter studs.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
5. Tighten the fasteners.
* Tighten the exhaust hanger nuts to 29 Nm (21 lb ft).
* Tighten the exhaust pipe to the muffler nuts to 24 Nm (18 lb ft).
* Tighten the muffler clamp nuts to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
* Tighten the wide band clamps to 73 Nm (54 lb ft).
