Engine Mount Replacement

Removal Procedure

Notice: Broken or deteriorated mounts can cause misalignment and destruction of certain drive train components. When a single mount breaks, the remaining mounts are subjected to abnormally high stresses.





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Starting and Charging.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. In order to remove the right side engine mount perform the following:
3.1. Remove the right front tire.
3.2. Remove the right fender wheelhouse extension.
3.3. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Starting and Charging.
4. In order to remove the left side engine mount remove the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Replacement.
5. Remove the engine mount through-bolt and nut for the side being replaced.

Notice: When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack under the oil pan, any sheet metal, or the crankshaft pulley. Lifting the engine in an unapproved manner may cause component damage.





6. Using a jack on the square tab (left side shown) at the rear of the engine block, raise the engine only enough to remove the engine mount.





7. Remove the bolts for the engine mount bracket to the engine.
Access the upper two bolts for the right engine mount bracket through the fender wheelhouse.
8. Remove the engine mount bracket.





9. For 4WD vehicle remove the bolts for the engine mount to the frame (left side shown).
10. Remove the engine mount.





11. For a RWD vehicle left side remove the bolts and the nuts for the engine mount to the frame bracket (left side shown).
12. For a RWD vehicle right side remove the bolts and the nuts for the engine mount to the frame.
13. If necessary, remove the left side engine mount frame bracket from the frame.

Installation Procedure





1. For 4WD vehicle install the engine mount to the frame (left side shown).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the 4WD vehicle engine mount to the frame bolts.
Tighten the 4WD vehicle engine mount to frame bolts to 59 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).





3. If removed, install the RWD vehicle left side bolts, nuts and engine mount frame bracket to the frame.
^ Tighten the engine mount frame bracket bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the engine mount frame bracket nuts to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the RWD vehicle right side engine mount, the bolts, and the nuts to the frame.
5. Install the RWD vehicle left side engine mount, the bolts, and the nuts to the frame bracket.
^ Tighten the engine mount to frame bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the engine mount to frame nuts to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the engine mount bracket to the engine.
7. Install the engine mount bracket bolts.
Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts to 64 Nm (47 ft. lbs.).





8. Lower the engine.
9. Install the engine mount through- bolt and the nut.
Tighten the engine mount through-bolt nuts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.).
10. If replacing the left side engine mount, install the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Replacement.
11. If replacing the right side engine mount, install the following:
11.1. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Starting and Charging.
11.2. Install the right fender wheelhouse extension.
11.3. Install the right front tire.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Connect the batter negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Starting and Charging.
