Steering Gear Coupling Shaft
NOTICE: The wheels of the vehicle must be straight ahead and the steering column in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Failure to do so will cause the SIR coil to become uncentered, which will cause damage to the coil.REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Steering gear coupling shaft seal for access to lower pinch bolt.
2. Pinch bolt at power steering gear stub shaft.
3. Left hand instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulators in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
4. Reposition intermediate shaft seal to gain access to upper intermediate shaft pinch bolt.
5. Pinch bolt and disconnect intermediate shaft at the steering column.
6. Steering gear coupling shaft.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Position intermediate shaft.
2. Upper pinch bolt at steering column.
^ Tighten Pinch bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb ft).
3. Intermediate shaft seal onto steering column.
4. Pinch bolt at power steering gear stub shaft.
^ Tighten Pinch bolt to 48 Nm (35 lb ft).
5. Intermediate shaft seal onto power steering gear.
6. Left hand instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulators in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
