Power Steering Gear Inlet Hose (Pressure Line)
Remove or Disconnect
1. Place drain pan under pump and gear.
2. Engine mount strut at engine.
3. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
WARNING: Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.
CAUTION: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.
4. Intermediate shaft lower bolt screw and move aside plastic cover.
5. Rear frame bolts/screws.
6. Lower rear of frame.
7. Exhaust pipe.
8. Power steering gear heat shield.
9. Power steering gear outlet hose clip.
10. Inlet hose at steering gear.
11. Raise rear of frame.
12. Temporarily reinstall old rear frame bolts/screws.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Clip from power steering pump.
15. Coolant recovery reservoir and move aside.
16. Drive belt.
17. Ignition wiring harness near pump.
18. Power steering pump pulley.
19. Tie straps from hose.
20. Inlet hose from pump.
21. Inlet hose.
^ Inspect O-rings, replace as necessary.
Install or Connect
1. Position inlet hose to pump.
2. Inlet hose.
^ Tighten inlet hose to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
3. Tie straps to hose.
4. Power steering pump pulley.
5. Ignition wiring harness at pump.
6. Drive belt.
7. Coolant recovery reservoir.
8. Clip to power steering pump.
9. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
10. Remove rear frame bolts/screws.
11. Lower rear of frame.
12. Inlet hose to steering gear.
^ Tighten inlet hose to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
13. Power steering gear outlet hose clip.
14. Power steering gear heat shield.
15. Exhaust pipe.
16. Raise frame.
17. New rear frame bolts/screws.
18. Position plastic cover and intermediate shaft lower bolt/screw.
19. Lower vehicle.
20. Engine mount strut at engine.
21. Fill power steering pump reservoir with fluid.
22. Bleed system.
^ Inspect for leaks.
