Cooler Pipe

^ Tools Required:
- J 28467-500 Engine Support Fixture
- J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
- J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg
- Or Equivalents


Remove or Disconnect
1. Install the Engine Support Fixture, Engine Support Fixture Adapters, and Engine Support Adapter Leg.
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Left and right wheel and tire.

WARNING: Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

CAUTION: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.

4. Intermediate steering shaft bolt at steering gear.
5. Right side engine splash shield.
6. Both tie rod ends from steering knuckle.
7. Exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
8. Engine and transaxle mount nuts at frame.
9. Power steering cooler line retaining clips from frame.
10. Support rear frame, using jack stands.
11. Rear frame retaining bolts.
12. Lower frame 76.2 mm (3 inches).
13. Steering gear heat shield.
14. Power steering lines clamp from steering gear.
15. Power steering return hose from cooler pipe.
16. Cooler pipe from steering gear.
17. Cooler pipe.


Install or Connect
1. Cooler pipe.
2. Cooler pipe to steering gear.
3. Power steering return hose and clamp to cooler. Tighten clamp.
4. Power steering lines clamp to steering gear.
5. Steering gear heat shield.
6. Raise frame and align steering gear stub shaft to intermediate shaft.
7. Both frame bolts.
8 Remove jackstand from frame.
9. Power steering cooler pipe retaining clamps to frame.
10. Engine and transaxle mount retaining nuts to frame.
11. Exhaust pipe and converter.
12. Both tie rod ends to steering knuckles.
13. Right side engine splash shield.

WARNING: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure the shaft is seated prior to bolt installation. If the bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

CAUTION: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.

14. Intermediate shaft lower bolt.
^ Tighten bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
15. Both front wheel and tire.
16. Lower vehicle.
17. Remove the Engine Support Fixture, Engine Support Fixture adapters, and Engine Support Adapter Leg.
^ Bleed power steering system.
^ Inspect for leaks.
