Rear Brake Hose Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Air in the brake system can cause the loss of brakes with possible personal injury.

NOTICE:
- Do not allow components to hang from the flexible brake hoses as damage to the hoses may occur. Some brake hoses have protective rings or covers to prevent direct contact of the hose with other chassis parts. Besides causing possible structural damage to the hose, excessive tension could cause the hose rings to move out of their proper locations.
- Brake hoses should not be crimped at any point, in order to prevent the loss of brake fluid from any component.

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hoses and the fittings.

3. Remove the brake pipes (1) from the brake hose.
- Use a backup wrench on the hose fittings.
- Do not bend the brake pipes (1) or the bracket (2).

4. Remove the retainers from the brake hose (4) at the brackets.
5. Remove the hose (4) from the brackets.
6. Remove the hose (4).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the hose (4).
- Ensure that there are no kinks in the hose (4).
- Use the hose paint stripe as a visual aid.
- Align the hose fitting with the notch in the brackets.
2. Install the retainers onto the hose fittings.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the brake pipes (1) to the brake hose.
- Use a backup wrench on the hose fittings.
- Do not bend the pipes (1).
- Tighten the fittings to 21 Nm (15 ft lbs).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Bleed the brakes. Refer to "Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding" in Brake Bleeding.
