Governor Body Removal






1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Remove the extension housing from the transmission case (two-wheel drive models).
3. Remove the transfer adapter case from the transmission case (four-wheel drive models).
4. Remove the following items from the transmission output shaft (3):
^ The two speedometer drive gear retaining rings (1)
^ The speedometer drive gear (2)





5. Install the governing ring (417) onto the transmission output shaft.
6. Install the governor hub (408).





7. Remove the governor assembly bolts (2) from the governor hub (3).
8. Remove the governor assembly (1) and the governor assembly gasket.





9. Remove the governor fluid screen (2).





10. Remove the following from the governor body (412):
^ The secondary valve retainer (411)
^ The secondary spring (414)
^ The secondary valve (413)
^ The primary valve (415)

11. Clean all of the governor components with solvent. Allow the components to air dry.





12. Inspect the governor hub seal rings (406) for cuts or other damage. Replace the rings as necessary.





13. Inspect the primary (415) and the secondary (413) valves for nicks and burs. Replace the governor assembly as necessary
14. Inspect the fluid passages and valve bores in the governor body for nicks, burrs or varnish. Replace the governor assembly as necessary.
