MEASURE
Vane To Rotor Clearance:
^ Vane to rotor clearance using a feeler gage. Maximum vane to rotor clearance is 0.06 (0.0023 inch). If vane to rotor clearance is greater than specified, replace the pump assembly.
Flow Control Valve Spring Measurement:
^ Free length of the flow control valve spring using dial calipers. Free length of spring should fall within 30.5 mm - 33.5 mm (1.20 inch to 1.32 inch): If valve spring does not fall within specifications, replace the pump assembly.
INSPECT
Pump Body And Shaft Inspection:
Cam Ring Inspection:
^ Pump body, cam ring, rotor, vanes and flow control valve for excessive wear.
^ Power steering pump body for cracks or leaks.
^ If excessive wear, cracks or leaks are present on pump body or any internal parts, the power steering pump must be replaced.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
Important
^ Replace all old power steering pump O-ring seals with new ones from the power steering pump seal kit.
^ Lubricate internal parts with power steering gear and pump fluid Dexron III, or equivalent.
