Power Steering Gear Replacement
REMOVE OR DISCONNECTPlace a drain pan below the steering gear.
1. Return and inlet hoses from the steering gear. Cap or tape the ends of the hoses and gear fittings to prevent the entrance of dirt.
2. Intermediate shaft shield from steering gear.
3. Lower clamp bolt.
- Draw alignment marks on the lower clamp and the steering shaft before removing the lower clamp.
4. Lower clamp from the steering shaft.
5. Pitman arm.
6. Steering gear mounting bolts and washers.
7. Steering gear.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Steering gear.
2. Washers and mounting bolts.
- Tighten mounting bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
3. Pitman arm.
4. Lower clamp to the steering shaft.
- Make sure the alignment marks line up.
5. Lower clamp bolt.
6. Intermediate shaft shield to steering gear.
7. Return and inlet hoses.
- Tighten hose clamps to 2.0 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
8. Bleed the system. Refer to "Bleeding The Power Steering System."
