Brake Pad: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDUREUse GM replacement brake lining material for this vehicle. GM replacement brake parts provide the proper brake balance for stopping distance and for braking control. The intended brake balance for this vehicle can change if GM replacement brake lining materials are not used.
IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper.
1. Remove the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front Wheel) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear Wheel).
NOTICE: Do not allow the brake components to hang from the flexible brake hoses. Damage to the brake hoses could result.
2. Suspend the caliper.
3. Remove the anchor bracket (if necessary).
4. Remove the inboard lining from the caliper.
5. Remove the retainer spring from the inboard brake shoe.
6. Remove the outboard lining from the caliper.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the anchor bracket.
^ Tighten the anchor bracket mounting bolts to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the outboard lining.
3. Install the retainer spring on the inboard brake shoe.
4. Install inboard lining in the caliper.
NOTICE: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.
5. Install the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement (Front Wheel) or Brake Caliper Replacement (Rear Wheel).
IMPORTANT: Before moving the vehicle, pump the brake pedal several times in order to make sure the pedal is firm. Do not move the vehicle until you get a firm brake pedal. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir after pumping the brake pedal.
