Power Steering Fluid Cooler: Service and Repair

Some models are equipped with a power steering system oil cooler. There are two types of coolers are used, a tubular loop-type and a finned-type.

Power Steering Oil Cooler (4.3L):




Power Steering Oil Cooler (5.0L, 5.7L, 7.4 And 6.5L Diesel):





REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. The power steering cooler hose and pipe connections.
^ Be prepared to catch any fluid that may drain out at the connections.
^ Cap the power steering hoses and pipes and cooler ends to prevent the entry of dirt.
2. The bolts.
3. The cooler from the vehicle.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. The cooler to the vehicle.
2. The bolts.

Tighten
^ The bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).

3. The power steering cooler hose and pipe connections.
^ Fill and bleed the system.
