Locating Fluid Leaks
1. With the vehicle's engine off, wipe the complete power steering system dry (gear, pump, hoses, and connections).
2. Check the fluid level in the reservoir and adjust as directed.
3. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times. Do not hold the wheel against the stops as this may damage the pump.
4. Locate the exact area of the leak.
1. Pressure Line Fitting-Torque the fitting to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). If leakage persists, replace the seal.
2. Side Cover Leak-Torque the side cover bolts to 60 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Refer to Power Steering Gear Unit Repair if leakage persists.
3. Adjuster Plug Seal - refer to Power Steering Gear Unit Repair.
4. Pitman Shaft Seals - Replace the seal.
5. Top Cover Seal - Replace the seal. Refer to Power Steering Gear Unit Repair.
