Steering Damper: Service and Repair
Important: Use the proper tool to separate all ball joints.REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
^ Tools Required:
- J 24319-B Steering Linkage Puller
1. Nut from the steering shock absorber ball stud.
2. Steering shock absorber from the relay rod using J 24319-B.
3. Cotter pin.
4. Nut and bolt from the frame mount end.
5. Steering shock absorber.
INSPECT
- Ball stud threads for damage.
- Ball stud seals for excessive wear.
CLEAN
- Threads on the ball stud and ball stud nut.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
^ Tools Required:
- J 29193 Steering Linkage Installer (12 mm)
- J 29194 Steering Linkage Installer (14 mm)
1. Steering shock absorber to the frame Bracket.
2. Bolt and nut.
- Tighten nut to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
3. Cotter pin. Bend out the ends of the cotter pin.
4. Steering Shock absorber ball stud to the relay rod.
- Make sure the seal is on the stud. Tighten J 29193 or J 29194 to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) in order to seat the taper.
5. Nut.
- Tighten nut to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
