Wiper Motor Linkage: Service and Repair

J 39529 Wiper Transmission Assembly Tool

Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Wiper arm assemblies.
3. Cowl vent grille.
4. Transmission screws.
5. Transmission assembly from the vehicle.
^ Unseal the transmission assembly from the wiper motor crank arm using J39232, and remove it through the access openings in the top of the cowl.

Description:

Install or Connect
1. Transmission assembly to the vehicle.
2. Transmission screws.

Tighten
^ Wiper transmission assembly mounting screws to 14 N.m (10 lbs. ft.).

Description:

3. Transmission drive link to wiper motor crank arm using J 39529.
^ Lubricate the inside of the socket with white lithium grease (GM P/N 9985885) or equivalent.

IMPORTANT: Wiper transmission assembly must be assembled to the crank arm past the second detent so the seal is compressed to a maximum height of 25 mm (1 inch).

4. Cowl vent grille.
5. Wiper arm assemblies.
Inspect
^ Perform System Check.
