Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Drain the coolant from the radiator.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Engine.
3. Remove the upper fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement.
4. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement.





5. Remove the cooling fan clutch.
6. Remove the coolant pump drive pulley.
7. Loosen the radiator outlet hose clamp.
8. Remove radiator outlet hose from the coolant pump.





9. Remove the coolant pump attaching bolts.





10. Remove the coolant pump from the engine.





11. Remove the coolant pump gaskets.
12. Be sure all mating surfaces are clean and free of gasket material or burs.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the coolant pump gaskets.
2. Install the coolant pump to the engine.
3. Apply GM P/N 1052080 (or equivalent) sealant to the bolt threads.
4. Install the coolant pump attaching bolts.
^ Tighten the attaching bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
5. Place the radiator outlet hose clamp loosely on the end of the hose.
6. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the coolant pump.
7. Tighten the radiator hose clamp.
8. Install the coolant pump drive pulley.
9. Install the fan clutch.
10. Install the cooling fan.
11. Install the multiple ribbed accessory drive belt.
12. Install the upper fan shroud.
13. Fill the radiator with the specified coolant and concentration.
14. Check the cooling system for leaks.
