Valve Spring: Service and Repair

VALVE STEM OIL SEAL AND VALVE SPRING

Removal
^ Tools Required
- J 23590 Spark Plug Port Adapter
- J 5892-D Valve Spring Compressor
- Or Equivalents.


1. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to spark plug.
2. Remove the rocker arms. Service and Repair
3. Install the J23590 into the spark plug hole.
4. Apply compressed air in order to hold the valves in place.





5. Place the valve spring compressor over the rocker arm stud.
6. Install a rocker arm nut on the rocker arm stud in order to hold the valve spring compressor in place.
7. Compress the valve spring with the valve spring compressor.





8. Remove the valve keys.
9. Carefully release the spring tension.
1O. Remove the valve spring compressor.





11. Remove the valve spring cap.





12. Remove the valve spring.





13. Remove the valve stem oil seal.





14. Remove the valve spring seat.

Installation
1. Install the valve spring seat. Lubricate the valve spring seal with engine oil in order to make assembly easier.
2. Install the new valve stem oil seal.
3. Set the valve spring in place.
4. Set the valve spring cap in place.
5. Compress the valve spring with the valve spring compressor.
6. With air pressure still applied, install the valve keys. Use grease to hold the valve keys in place.
7. Remove the spark plug port adapter.
8. Remove the valve spring compressor.
9. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug
10. Install the rocker arms.
