Universal Transmitter

On vehicles equipped with this feature, the universal transmitter can be programmed to replace up to three hand-held transmitters, such as those used for garage door openers. The universal transmitter is powered by the vehicle's battery and charging system. The effective transmission range of the universal transmitter may be different from the hand-held transmitter it is replacing, and from one channel to another.

Take the following precautions when programming the universal transmitter:
^ Do not use the universal transmitter with a garage door that does not have a "stop and reverse" feature. This includes any garage door opener manufactured before April 1,1982.
^ Be sure that all objects and people are clear of the garage door when programming the universal transmitter with a garage door opener.

To program the universal transmitter to replace a hand-held transmitter:
1. Turn the vehicle's engine OFF.
2. If the universal transmitter has been programmed previously, proceed to Step 3. Otherwise, hold down the two outside buttons on the transmitter until the red light begins to flash rapidly (approximately 20 seconds), then release the buttons. This will erase the transmitter's memory and any previous settings.
3. Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter against the bottom surface of the universal transmitter so that the red light is still visible.
4. Press the button on the hand-held transmitter and the desired button on the on the universal transmitter. Continue to hold both buttons through Step 5.
5. Hold both buttons until the red light on the universal transmitter flashes rapidly. The rapidly flashing light, which may flash for up to 90 seconds, indicates that the universal transmitter has been successfully programmed. Release the buttons on the hand-held and universal transmitters once the red light begins to flash rapidly.
