Ignition/Engine Control Switch

The ignition/engine control switch is located in the upper end of the steering column. The electrical switching portion of the assembly is separate from the key and lock cylinder. However, both are synchronized and work together through the actuator rod assembly.

The engine control switch actuates the glow plugs and glow plug relay when the switch is turned to the "RUN" position. A WAIT TO START lamp on the instrument panel remains lit until the glow plugs have preheated the combustion chamber. Turning the engine control switch to the start position after the WAIT TO START lamp turns off will engage the starter motor solenoid for cranking.
