Center Link: Service and Repair
^ Tools Required:- J 29193 Steering Linkage Installer (12 mm)
- J 24319-B Universal Steering Linkage Puller
Important: Do not attempt to free the ball stud by using a pickle fork or wedge-type tool; seal or bushing damage could result. Use the proper tool to separate all ball joints.
Remove or Disconnect
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. The inner tie rod from the relay rod. Refer to "Tie Rod."
3. The nuts from the idler arm and pitman arm ball studs at the relay rod.
4. The relay rod from the idler arm using J 24319-B.
5. The relay rod from the connecting rod using J 24319-B.
Inspect
- The threads on the tie rod and the tie rod end for damage.
- The ball stud threads for damage.
- The ball stud seals for excessive wear.
Clean
- The threads on the ball stud and the ball stud nut.
Install or Connect
1. The relay rod to the idler arm.
2. The relay rod to the pitman arm ball stud. Make certain the seal is on the stud. Tighten J 29193 or J 29194 to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) to seat the tapers. Remove the tool.
3. The nuts to the idler arms and the connecting rod.
- Tighten the nuts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
4. The inner tie rod to the relay rod. Refer to "Tie Rod."
5. Lower the vehicle.
