Installation

^ Tools Required
- J 8080 Crankshaft Main Bearing Remover/Installer, Or Equivalent





1. Install upper crankshaft main bearing inserts.
a. Insert the crankshaft main bearing installer into a crankshaft main bearing oil hole.
b. Apply engine oil to the inserts of the proper size.
c. Insert the plain end of the insert, without the bearing tang, between the crankshaft and the notched side of the block.
d. Rotate the crankshaft to "roll" the insert into the block.
e. Remove the tool.





2. Install the lower crankshaft main bearing inserts to the crankshaft main bearing caps.
a. Make sure the inserts are of the proper size.
b. Apply engine oil to the inserts.
3. Adjust the crankshaft main bearing clearance.
a. Support the crankshaft upward to remove any clearance from the upper bearing.
b. Measure the total clearance between the lower bearing and the journal.
d. Install the crankshaft main bearing caps (except the rear cap).
e. Install the bolts to the block.
^ Tighten the crankshaft main bearing cap bolts to 105 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
6. Apply engine oil to the bearing insert.
7. Install the crankshaft rear main bearing cap.
8. Install the crankshaft rear main bearing cap bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts temporarily to 14 Nm (124 inch lbs.).
9. Inspect the crankshaft end play.
^ Tighten the crankshaft rear main bearing cap bolts to 105 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the oil pump.
11. Install the oil pan.
12. Install the spark plugs.
