Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair









- Tool Required:
- J 37668-A Front Output Shaft Seal Installer

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Front or rear propeller shaft.
3. Output flange nut and washer (front propeller shaft only).
4. Rubber sealing washer (front propeller shaft only).
5. Front output flange (front propeller shaft only).
6. Output shaft seal.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the output shaft seal.
- Do not damage the seal bore when removing the output shaft seal.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Output shaft seal.
- Align the drain hole in the output shaft seal with the groove in extension housing (rear output shaft seal only).
- Lubricate the seal lips with transfer case oil.





- Install the output shaft seal using J 37668-A.
2. Front output shaft flange (front propeller shaft only).
3. Rubber sealing washer (front propeller shaft only).
4. Washer (front propeller shaft only).
5. Output shaft flange nut (front propeller shaft only).
- Tighten output flange nut to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
6. Propeller shaft.
7. Check the transfer case oil level and add oil if required.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Test the transfer case for proper operation.
