Differential Cover: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Cover bolts.
- Place a container under the carrier to catch the lubricant.
2. Cover from the axle housing.
- Carefully pry the cover loose.
3. Lubricant from the axle housing.
4. Fill plug.

Clean
- Gasket surfaces on the axle housing and the carrier cover.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New gasket.
2. Cover.
3. Bolts.
- Tighten bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) in a crosswise pattern.
4. New lubricant to a level within 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) of the fill plug hole.
5. Fill plug.
- Tighten fill plug 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
