Valve Body Replacement

- Tool Required:
- J 25025-5 Guide Pins

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Place drain pan under the transmission oil pan.
2. Transmission oil.
3. Electrical connections from the switches.





4. Solenoid bolts, TCC solenoid assembly with the O-ring seal, and the wiring harness.





5. Accumulator cover bolts and the 1-2 accumulator cover and the pin assembly.
6. Accumulator inner spring, spring, and the piston.
7. Bolt and the manual detent spring assembly.
8. Electrical wire clips.
9. Wiring harness retaining washer.





10. Remaining valve body bolts.





11. Manual valve link.
12. Control valve assembly.
13. Spacer plate and spacer plate gaskets.
14. Checkballs, 3-4 accumulator spring, piston, and the piston pin.
- Seven checkballs are located under the valve body, one is located in the case.

Important: The use of a honing stone, fine sandpaper, or crocus cloth is not recommended for servicing stuck valves. All valve lands have sharply machined corners that are necessary for cleaning the bore. If these corners are rounded, foreign material could wedge between the valve and the bore causing the valve to stick. If it is found necessary to clean a valve, use micro fine lapping compound (900 grit or finer).

Too much lapping of the valve will cause excessive clearances and increase the chance of a valve not operating.

Clean
- Valve body and associated parts thoroughly in a cleaning solvent.
- Air dry.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. The wiring harness pass-through connector into the case.
2. The 3-4 accumulator pin into the case.
3. The 3-4 accumulator piston onto the 3-4 accumulator pin.
4. The 3-4 accumulator spring onto the 3-4 accumulator piston.

Case Checkballs And Oil Screen 4L60-E:

5. Torque converter clutch oil screen.
6. Checkball into case as shown.
- Retain with Transjel(R) J 36850 or equivalent.
7. Tool J 25025-5 into the case.
8. Screens onto spacer plate.
9. Spacer plate to case gasket, valve body spacer plate, and spacer plate to valve body gasket to the case.
- Retain the gaskets and the spacer plate with Transjel(R) J 36850 or the equivalent.

Important: Do not damage the screens when installing the spacer plate and gaskets.

10. Spacer plate support plate and the bolts.
- Tighten bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
11. 1-2 Accumulator piston, spring, inner spring, and cover to the case with three accumulator bolts.
- Tighten bolts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
