A 1997 mid-model year production change involving the Throttle Body and Accelerator Cable has occurred on the above identified vehicles. When replacing the Throttle Body or the Accelerator Cable, the correct components must be used (see text).

Important:
The use of an incorrect Accelerator Cable will result in:

^ A raised idle speed (Accelerator Cable too short) or

^ Inability to obtain W.O.T. (Accelerator Cable too long).

The throttle cable cam on the Throttle Body has been re-designed. This change causes the throttle blade to open sooner for a given throttle position,

This production change occurred during 1997 vehicle production in mid-October, 1996. The following VIN breakpoints have been established:

The use of the new Throttle Body requires a different Accelerator Cable.

When ordering service parts, determine which Throttle Body the engine has. The correct Accelerator Cable must be used.

A bar code label (2) on the front of the Throttle Body (1) shows the last four (4) digits of the Throttle Body part number (see Figure 1).

Accelerator Cables (1) have the part number stamped in the cable (see Figure 2).
