Cylinder Head - Installation

^ Tools Required
- J 36660 Torque Angle Meter





1. Install the head gasket
^ Do not use sealer on composite gaskets.
^ Place the gasket over the block dowel pins.





2. Carefully guide the cylinder head into place over the dowel pins and the gasket.
3. Coat the threads of the cylinder head bolts with sealing compound GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent.

Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence:

4. Install the cylinder bolts finger tight.
a. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
b. Tighten the bolts in sequence using the J 36660 .
c. Tighten short length bolts (11, 7, 3, 2, 6, 10) 55°.
d. Tighten medium length bolts (12,13) 65°.
e. Tighten the long bolts (1,4,8,5,9) 75°.
5. Install the pushrods.
6. Install the valve rocker arm cover.
7. Install the spark plugs.
8. Install the spark plug wires to the brackets.
9. Install the generator and the bracket.
10. Reconnect the wiring harness and the clip at the rear of the head.
11. Reconnect the coolant sensor wire.
12. Install the exhaust manifold.
13. Install the intake manifold.
14. Install the engine cover.
15. Connect the negative battery cable.
16. Fill the cooling system.
