C0022
DTC C0022 Circuit Diagram:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
As a toothed ring passes by the wheel speed sensor, changes in the electromagnetic field cause the wheel speed sensor to produce a sinusoidal (AC) voltage signal whose frequency and amplitude is proportional to wheel speed. The magnitude of this signal is directly related to wheel speed and the proximity of the wheel speed sensor to the toothed ring, often referred to as the air gap.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING DTC
- Right front wheel speed is less than 4 mph.
- All other wheel speeds are greater than 8 mph.
- No unexpected wheel acceleration/deceleration. Anything that keeps the right front wheel speed sensor low while the vehicle is moving above 8 mph.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN DTC IS SET
- ANTILOCK indicator lamp is illuminated
- Antilock Brake System (ABS) is disabled
NOTE: This DTC is a Ignition Latched DTC which indicates the above is true until the ignition is turned to OF (even if the cause of the DTC is intermittent).
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.
Any circuitry that is suspected of causing the intermittent complaint should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to the wiring hamess.
When inspecting a wheel speed sensor, inspect the sensor terminals and hamess connector for corrosion. If evidence of corrosion exists, replace the wheel speed sensor. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor, Service and Repair. Service and Repair
NOTE: Resistance of the wheel speed sensor will increase with an increase in sensor temperature.
^ When temperature is between -40 - 4 °C (-40 - 40 °F) resistance is 702 to 1060 ohms.
^ When temperature is between 5 - 43 °C (41 - 110 °F) resistance is 855 to 1230 ohms.
^ When temperature is between 44 - 93 °C ( 111 - 200 °F) resistance is 1000 to 1440 ohms.
^ When temperature is between 94 - 150 °C (201 - 302 °F) resistance is 1170 to 1661 ohms.
