Shift Cable Replacement

1. Remove shift cable from vacuum actuator by disengaging locking spring and pushing actuator diaphragm in to release cable.
2. Compress cable locking fingers with pliers, then remove cable from bracket.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove switch housing mounting bolts and pull housing away from axle tube flange to gain access to cable locking spring.
5. Disconnect cable from shaft fork by lifting spring over slot in shift fork, then unscrew cable from housing and remove from vehicle.
6. Install cable following proper routing, Fig. 3.
7. Install cable and switch housing to carrier. Tighten mounting bolts to specifications.
8. Slide cable through switch housing into fork shaft hole and push cable in. The cable will snap in place automatically. Tighten coupling nut to specifications.
9. Lower vehicle, then connect shift cable to vacuum actuator by pressing cable into bracket hole. Cable will snap in place automatically.
10. Check cable for proper operation.
