Lower and Upper Intermediate Shaft Replacement

LOWER AND UPPER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACEMENT












REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
^ Set front wheels in the straight-ahead position and the steering wheel in the "LOCKED" position.
^ Mark the upper intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft and the rag joint to steering gear input shaft relationship to ensure proper installation.

1. Shield nuts and bolts.
2. Shield on lower intermediate shaft.
3. Bolt from rag joint to steering gear input shaft.
4. Lower intermediate shaft.
^ Slide shaft off the upper intermediate shaft.
^ This may require the use of a small hammer.
5. Bolts from upper intermediate shaft.
6. Upper intermediate shaft.
7. Seal.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Seal.
2. Upper intermediate shaft onto steering column shaft.
^ Align the marks made at removal.
3. Bolts.

TIGHTEN
^ Bolts to 3 Nm (27 lbs. in.).

4. Lower intermediate shaft onto upper intermediate shaft.
^ The marks made at removal on the rag joint and steering gear input shaft must be aligned.
5. Bolt to lower rag joint to steering gear input shaft.

TIGHTEN
^ Bolt to 35 Nm (25 lbs. ft.).

6. Shield onto lower intermediate shaft.
7. Nuts and bolts.
