Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Front Cover:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Relieve fuel pressure.
3. Remove torque axis mount, then serpentine belt.
4. Using pulling tool No. J38197, or equivalent, remove crankshaft pulley.
5. Remove crankshaft sensor shield, then oil pan to front cover attaching bolts.
6. Remove front cover attaching bolts, then front cover.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Inspect timing chain for in and out movement, which should not exceed one inch.
b. Check timing chain sprockets for any signs of wear.
c. Clean gasket mating surfaces at timing chain cover and cylinder block.
d. Apply sealant part No. 1052080, or equivalent, to bolt threads prior to installation.
