Timing Chain: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove front cover.
3. Align timing marks on sprockets, Fig. 7, so they are as close together as possible.
4. Remove timing chain dampener.
5. Remove camshaft sprocket bolt, Fig. 8.
6. Remove camshaft sprocket and chain, then crankshaft sprocket.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure No. 1 piston is at TDC.
b. Ensure camshaft and balance shaft timing marks are straight down, Fig. 7.
c. Assemble timing chain on sprockets with their timing marks in their closest together position.
d. Tighten camshaft sprocket bolts to specifications.
